Brown College of Court Reporting: Open House Review

Brown College of Court Reporting held its Open House on August 23, 2014. The event was a huge success, which drew many prospective students to the College to learn more about court reporting.  All prospective students were given a tour of the campus, giving them a feel for where current students spend their time, dedicating themselves to becoming future court reporters.

The Open House commenced with Carlette Jennings, the Director of Admissions, enlightening everyone about the strong history, excellent reputation, and success of Brown College of Court Reporting and its graduates. She also informed everyone about the different enrollment statuses students can choose from, as well as sharing the College’s expectations of students, and more beneficial information about the school, faculty and staff.

The Open House showcased an excellent line-up of guest speakers who are court reporting veterans, providing valuable information about this lucrative career. The guest speakers had an abundance of information in regards to different avenues you can take when it comes to court reporting. Alison Jordan, Official Court Reporter for Cobb County, gave great insight on what life is like as an official court reporter.  Christopher Artman, who is a freelance court reporter, works for a successful court reporting firm, Donovan Reporting, in Marietta. Other avenues in court reporting include broadcast captioning and providing Communication Access Realtime Translation (CART).

Karen Renner, Director of Education, spoke about her experience as a court reporter and also provided valuable information about Brown College.  A live, realtime stenography demonstration was provided by current student, Kate Bush. The live, realtime voice-writing demonstration was provided by part-time voice-writing instructor, Robin Sawyer, who is also a graduate of the school. The knowledgeable guest speakers answered the many questions of the prospective students.

All the prospective students left the Open House well-informed and with a burning desire to begin the enrollment process, as the fall quarter commences October 6 2014.
